IKO & guts’n’faders
Stellations

Wood meets metal, sound meets space, the human being meets loudspeakers: the Graz-based duo guts’n’faders, who have been experimenting creatively for many years with combinations of electronic and acoustic sound-space, tackle a new challenge in the Stellations projects. The Ikosaeder (Icosahedron), IKO for short, an experimental 3D audio speaker developed at the Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz that has long achieved cult standing in acoustic research, is the in/visible third player that turns the musicians’ duo into a trio. Together with a number of young composers, guts’n’faders explore the performative and spatial-acoustic possibilities of the IKO, putting a wide range of different variations of contemporary music “into space,” from algorithmic structures (Orestis Toufektsis) to linguistic composition (Reinhold Schinwald), from archaic murmurs (Lorenzo Troiani) to a nonchalant blend of styles between rock music and avant-garde (Stepha Schweiger).
